This Week's News & Events in Stillwater

Good morning, Stillwater! Who’s ready for a warmer weekend? 🙌
Now that we’re almost at 1.2K readers 🤯, I realize that for most of you, this is your first newsletter—howdy! Each week, I pull together everything happening across Stillwater and plop it into one quick email. To my regular readers, welcome back!
Last week, I received one of the best emails since starting SLL, and I wanted to share it with you:
Your mention of my business has already been a huge help to us!
…This morning, the Manager of StoneCloud reached out to me because he saw your mention of Longboyz in the Weekly Newsletter this morning!! When he read about Longboyz in the newsletter, he reached out and offered me a booth at the Puppy Bowl on February 8th!
You have truly already changed my life! It really is the best!
Messages like this keep me going because that’s what this newsletter is all about—connecting people and helping businesses to enrich Stillwater local life! (The ‘k’ in our name is a little nod to OK and a fun way to keep those Minnesotan Stillwater folks out 🥾💥.)
In today’s edition:
Learn how to become a creek caretaker 💧
Pizza with a side of medieval parchment
Captain Chad Hane is retiring 🚒
And lots more!

Local Business Shout-out 👉 New Leaf Coaching
Turn Over a New Leaf This Year
Great! You’ve made your New Year’s resolutions—but of course, sticking to them can be tough. Sometimes you need someone outside your circle to offer fresh perspective and practical guidance to help you figure out what’s holding you back.
Maybe it’s improving your mindset to thrive at work, finding balance to build stronger family relationships, or setting healthy boundaries to reclaim your time and sanity.
It’s natural to feel a little nervous about talking to someone new about these things. That’s why Certified Life Coach Angela Arceneaux Pradia at 🌱 New Leaf Coaching 🌱offers a free, no-pressure, 30-minute session to see if working together feels right for you.
Angela’s all about helping you turn over a new leaf—on your terms.

Old books, fresh pizza at Old Central tonight 📜🍕
It’s probably not everyday you can touch and smell something medieval. But today that could change for you. And there’s pizza to boot!
For the first Pizza with a Prof gathering of 2025, Professor Jennifer Borland will present on the fascinating world of parchment—prepared animal skin used in manuscripts. Attendees will learn how this bio-archeological material is being studied today and explore the remarkable animal archive preserved in manuscript form.

Become a Creek Caretaker 💦👍🏼
This is a neat opportunity to learn and do local conservation! The Blue Thumb program is training new volunteers to help monitor and protect our streams and creeks.
Day 1 covers water quality, pollution, and how to inform your community, plus a visit to a local creek to explore its ecology (yep, you’ll get in the water!). You’ll also receive a Project WET activity guide to take home.
Day 2 dives into stream-side and chemical testing, giving you the hands-on skills to monitor water quality every month. This training is required to become a Blue Thumb volunteer, but it’s also open to anyone needing a refresher.
📅 When: Saturday & Sunday, Jan 25 and 26 | 8:30 AM
📍 Where: OSU Agriculture Hall
It would be awesome if we received a Planeteers water ring 𓏌 but…you know…funding. Still, Go planet!

LOCAL BUSINESS

Impressionist art painting, or really bad photo? Either way, it was the long line stretched outside Good Little Eater last Friday (as promised!) as friends of Bobby Wintel braved the cold for a taste of Bobby’s Burgers. I asked around, but it’s still unclear if this was a one-time event or if Bobby’s Burgers will be back. Stay tuned for updates in the paper!
🐄 Our local Chic-Fil-A waived their delivery fee for the next two weeks. Need I say more?
🍜 Tokyo Pot temporarily closed on Monday and plans to reopen on Friday Feb 7.
🙋 Karman Korner is looking for reliable volunteers. It’s a fun, friendly place to give back, and volunteer Judy Baker always brings in home-made baked cakes on Monday mornings to share.
