Good morning, Stillwater! I don’t think the weather got the memo that’s October now, that it’s not supposed to be in the high 80’s! Sheesh! So don’t feel the need to break out the sweaters yet for the events this weekend. There’s a plethora! Hopefully I’ll see you out there!

Support Harvest II Food Drive 🍽️ ❤️

Ms. Claudette Thornton and the Stillwater Board of REALTORS are kicking off the 37th annual Harvest II food drive early this year. This year they’re focusing on collecting monetary donations to go help local agencies (Central Oklahoma Adult and Teen Challenge, Mission of Hope, Neighborhood Ministries, Our Daily Bread, Payne County Youth Services, Pete's Pantry, Salvation Army, Wings of Hope) even further. If you’d like to participate, the easiest way is to Venmo @HarvestII-SBOR to help local families get fresh produce, meat, and more on the table.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream at OSU 🎭 🌙

OSU Theatre is putting on a production of Shakespeare's most whimsical tale: A Midsummer Night’s Dream. A great opportunity to step into an enchanted world and enjoy the local arts.

P.S. A Midsummer Night’s Dream Overture by Mendelssohn is one of my favorite classical pieces, and it really captures the feeling of play. Plus, it’s almost a symmetrical piece of music, written when he was only 17! Anyways, back to the newsletter…

LOCAL BUSINESS

Should You Book That Trip Yourself? ✈️

It’s weird to me, but with all the tech we have, somehow it seems like travel has gotten trickier. Maybe you need a travel agent! WorkIT is hosting a Lunch & Learn presenting your local travel-agent Pascha Franklin. She will share when to DIY vs. when to call a pro, how to sidestep common booking headaches, and how a real human can have your back when flights go sideways. Includes a simple planning checklist and Q&A time.

📍 Where: WorkIT Coworking Center (901 S. Main St.)
📅 When: Next Wednesday, Oct. 8 at Noon
🎟️ Cost: Free for members; $10 for guests. Lunch is included 👍

Sad Day for Happy Buddha

A would-be customer placed an order for over $200 worth of food and then vanished. Jessica Tung of Happy Buddha shared on a local Facebook group. I mention this here not only because it bothers me, but another restaurant owner told me a similar story recently: someone called in an order for a large pizza dinner 30 minutes before closing and then never showed, despite multiple calls and attempts to reach them. If you own a restaurant, watch out for these, and get paid upfront if you can!

Meridian Tech Turns 50 🎉

This Sunday, Meridian Tech is throwing an open house to celebrate 50 years (wow!) of hands-on learning, career building, and community impact. They’ll have 40+ interactive exhibits with some live demos plus a ribbon cutting. If you’ve gone to school there, or are just curious, this is a neat opportunity to see what this Stillwater staple is all about.

📍 Where: Meridian Technology Center, 1312 S Sangre Rd
📅 When: Sunday, Oct. 5 | 1–3 PM (Ribbon cutting at 2 PM)
