Shoutout to a local family-owned business: EKOWBOSS Handyman

LeeAnne Forsythe of the Canyons neighborhood gave some high praise to EKOWBOSS today:Their prices are reasonable, their quality of work is excellent and they are very communicative throughout the process!” EKOWBOSS has 119 “Favorites” on Nextdoor (the social media platform) so they must be doing a good job. Plus it’s always nice to have a local reference for a good handyman. From the looks of their profile they do do it all. So if you’re in need of a jack of all trades, check out EKOWBOSS.

Stillwater Community Center Cinema Presents..🍿🎬

The Hunt for Red October. I loved this movie long before I could follow all that was happening in it, which was probably into my late 20’s. I guess it takes a fully-matured male brain to grasp it. It’s a cold war spy and submarine thriller packed with Sean Connery lines to help you hone your impersonation (“One ping only Vasily…one ping only”). Free movie, popcorn, candy, and water are provided, because Stillwater is awesome. Perfect for a patient date, guys night, or your friend who can understand sonar.

👉 Stw Community Center (8th and Duck) | Fri, Sept 12 | 6:30 PM | Free!

HERPS Reptile Show Returns to Stillwater! 🦎🐍

Unleash the herpetologist within! (That’s someone who likes slithery, scaly, sometimes scary* animals). If this speaks to you or your kids, checkout the the HERPS Exotic Reptile and Pet Show next weekend at the Expo Center. There will be thousands of reptiles, amphibians, small mammals, feeders, supplies, and more—all under one roof and open to the public.

🗓️ Sept 20–21 | 🕙 Sat 10–5, Sun 10–4
📍 Payne County Expo Center (Fairgrounds and Hwy 51/6th Ave)
🎟️ At the door — $10 adults / $5 kids (2-day passes available)
👶 Ages 4 & under free

Oral History 101 Workshop 🎤 📖

Do you have a story to tell? Or are you interested in preserving other’s stories? The Library is holding a free Oral History 101 workshop led by Patrick Daglaris, Associate Professor and Oral History at OSU, explaining interview techniques, ethics, and how to share stories across generations. Some studies have found a relationship between knowing one’s family history and higher levels of emotional well-being. So you might end up saving more than just a story! 🙏🏼

Fall into the Holidays Craft Show 🍂 🥮

It’s a “ber” month so that means ‘tis (almost) the season. If you're the kind of person who starts Christmas shopping before Halloween candy hits the clearance aisle, this might interest you.

The Fall into the Holidays Craft Show will be at the Payne County Expo Center on Saturday, September 13 from 8 AM to 5 PM. They expect to have 120+ booths and vendors of handmade gifts, holiday decor, and crafty treasures from near and far.

🛒 Request Trader Joes to come to Stillwater

If you’ve ever sighed about the lack of a Trader Joe’s in Stillwater, as my wife has, guess what?! My wife found an online form where you can request one to come to your city.

It’s not a guarantee of course, but they want to know they’re wanted in a community. They’re not just another grocery store. It’s a neighboorhood/market feel shopping experience. All of their products are their own, and they focus a lot on friendly staff and a great customer experience and affordable goods. I’m not being endorsed by them, we just love them. And if enough of us ask… who knows? Let your voice be heard
