Local Business Shout-out 👉  D’s Down Home Bar-B-Que

You haven’t really had BBQ until that deep, smoky flavor sticks with you long after the meal—at least 45 minutes. No sauce can touch that. That’s how you know you’ve had the real deal.

Bobby Douglas, founder of D’s Down Home Bar-B-Que, has spent decades perfecting his craft cooking for the Stillwater community. His BBQ tastes homemade because it is. Every bite is smoked and cooked fresh, right onsite at his food truck next to his home.

If you haven’t tried it yet, you’re missing out on some of the finest meat in town. And if you need catering, Bobby’s got you covered there as well.

📍 Find D’s Down Home Bar-B-Que at 823 W 11th Ave from 11 a.m. - 7 p.m. or on GrubHub. The smoked bologna is incredible! You won’t regret it.

P.S. You can learn more about this local BBQ legend here.

WHAT’S UP IN STILLWATER

Issue No. 8 is off to the printer and lands tomorrow, Friday, Jan. 31. This one’s special—it’s the first with professional journalist Ms. Deb Parker contributing. It’s packed with local stories I hope you’ll enjoy.

Didn’t know we print a physical newspaper? 📰 Yes, we do. And you can get it delivered to your door right here: sign up. Your support helps cover printing costs, contributor fees, and gas—and it means a lot!

📢 Heads up: With growing number of subscribers, I may not get all the business drop-offs done until Monday—unless I can recruit a small army of paperboys. (Any takers?) 😅

Town & Gown announces auditions for Crimes of the Heart 🎭

How is shooting your husband in the stomach the least of your family’s problems? 🤔

If that’s got your attention, maybe consider auditioning for Crimes of the Heart this weekend. It’s a Southern drama-comedy that follows three wildly different sisters navigating old wounds, small-town gossip, and a whole lot of emotional (and legal) baggage.

Don’t worry–if the thought of being on stage makes you woozy, there are opportunities to help backstage! Come to auditions and talk to the stage manager, and they might find you a role there.

Auditions are open to all on Friday, Jan. 31, and Saturday, Feb. 1 at 6:30 PM at Town & Gown theatre. Don’t forget to bring your best Southern drawl accent and go for that part!

Pancakes for a Purpose 🥞

I learned in high school that cold cereal, 5 AM, and running don’t mix—at least not for me. But pancakes, eggs, bacon, and sausage at 7:30 AM, and no running? That suits me much better.

If you’re the same way, join the SHS Pioneer Soccer Booster Club this Saturday, Feb. 1, for a pancake breakfast and silent auction at the High School Student Center. All proceeds support boys' and girls' soccer.

💰$6 gets you a hearty breakfast and the warm and fuzzies of helping local athletes.

Winter Carnival Fun at SHS (take two) ❄️🎪

Later on Saturday, SHS Junior Class officers are celebrating winter and raising funds for the prom by throwing a Winter Carnival. There will be carnival games, a bounce house, hot chocolate, sweet treats, and lots of prizes to go around. Bring the kids for sure.

And don’t miss the silent auction featuring exciting gift baskets and items donated by local businesses. The proceeds will go toward making this year’s prom a night to remember for SHS students.

📅 When: Saturday, Feb 1 | 5 – 9 PM
📍 Where: SHS Student Center
💸 Cost: Tickets $1/game sold at the door

Stonecloud Presents Groundhog Day 📽️🦫
When we can’t count on Hollywood anymore, I really appreciate how Stillwater has so many good free movie showings. This week, Stonecloud  is showing the endlessly quotable, hilarious, and surprisingly heartfelt classic Groundhog Day.

Bring a date to the Taproom Sunday at 6:30 PM and settle in to enjoy Bill Murray at his finest. And don’t forget to “Watch out for that first step, it's a doozie!” RSVP here.

LOCAL BUSINESS

Philmo Bakery is on the Rise 🍞

When Good Little Eater closed for the summer in May 2024, baker Phillip Moffat seized the opportunity to start his own venture—Philmo Bakery. He now operates from his custom-built "Bread Shed" on his property. He’s working full-time now creating naturally leavened breads and treats, including gluten-free cranberry walnut bread, banana bread, bagels, scones, cookies, pizza dough, and his popular "Phillip's Fudgy Brownies."

Phillip bakes by order, there’s a narrow window of opportunity to place an order each week. The next one opens this Friday around 7:30 AM for pickup on Wednesday, Feb. 5th. You can sign up here to get a text reminder when it opens 🔔. But hurry, it fills up fast!

Last week I asked, “Hey anyone interested in having Job Posting section?” and (some of) the people have spoken! 100% in favor.

I hear you loud and clear!

I hear you loud and clear! I’ve been slammed working on getting the paper out, but I’ll work on adding in a job post section soon!
