Winter has officially arrived, and today is a somber one as the nation observes a day of mourning for the passing of President Jimmy Carter. Still, there’s plenty of exciting stuff happening around our town to look forward to.

Stillwater Community Center Classic Cinema is Back 🍿🎥

It’s been a cold week and if you need a no-cost, fun, and cozy night out of the house, this is for you! Stillwater Community Center’s Classic Cinema is back this month with The Philadelphia Story. It’s ranked #44 on the AFI’s Top 100 list and stars silver screen icons Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart, and Katharine Hepburn. It’s a fantastic watch and a great way to shake off the winter blues.

Stillwater’s nationally recognized FFA just announced its Spring Meat and Honey Sale.

The lineup includes bacon, sausage, chicken, honey and creamed honey. That last one sure sounds good on some toast (or straight from the spoon, no judgment here)! 

But the real treat of course is supporting Stillwater’s future farmers. Every dollar goes toward FFA events, trips, and sponsorships this spring.

400 Shoes = Good News 👟

16-year-old SHS junior Baylor Citizen raised and donated 400 pairs of shoes to peers in need over winter break, ensuring that classmates across the district have shoes. She’s hoping to double that amount by her senior year. What an inspiring young lady! Read more about this feat (pun 100% intended) here.

Burritos, Blood, and Shiny Cars 🚗🌯💉

If you’re feeling inspired by Baylor, here’s a way to help others: donate blood this Saturday at Janzen Toyota! January is National Blood Donor month don’t ‘cha know, and Janzen is teaming up with Our Blood Institute, BABS Burritos, and KATT Rock 100.5 for a day of food, fun, and life-saving donations.

Here’s the lineup:

🌯 Enjoy breakfast burritos from BABS.
🎸 Rock 100.5 KATT will be on-site with tunes and good vibes.
👕 Donors get a limited-edition KATT T-shirt.

Art Classes at Prairie Arts Center 🧙🏻‍♂️

This Saturday, Jan 11 from 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM, Missy Hitch will teach a pottery class on how to make clay Valentine gnomes in a beginner-friendly sculpting workshop. All the materials and tools will be provided. Then plan on coming back next week to give them the final glaze.

Winter Carnival Magic at SHS ❄️🎪

SHS Junior Class officers are welcoming winter by throwing a Winter Carnival this Saturday, and the family is invited! Look forward to carnival games, a bounce house, hot chocolate, sweet treats, and lots of prizes to go around.

And don’t miss the silent auction featuring exciting gift baskets and items donated by local businesses. The proceeds will go toward making this year’s prom a night to remember for SHS students.

Meridian Tech Center’s Spring Classes are Here! 📚✨

I was impressed by the breadth of short courses offered in their catalog. They have a plethora of  courses on business, entrepreneurship, computers, construction, cooking, film, health and medical essentials, manufacturing, bee keeping, floral design, you name it! The prices are very affordable, averaging around $40 per class.

And if you stop by, say Hi to Jessica Hannon the new receptionist there!

Local Business Shout-out 👉 Pennie Works Studio

Local graphic designer Mark Pennie has been creating award-winning designs for over 40 years—many of them right here at OSU. He’s currently retired, but about six months ago he launched his own online store. And it’s worth checking out, especially if you’re into unique and classy Stillwater merch.

His Stillwater Heritage Collection has mugs, candles, T-shirts, beanies, hoodies—and my personal favorite, the Stillwater Heritage pillow.

I’ve had the chance to become acquainted with Mr. Pennie through the Stillwater Community Choir and at WorkIT, and trust me, he knows his stuff when it comes to design and witty sarcasm. These come together in some of his designs, like his "Hail to the Chef" shirt and the new "Sarcastic Squirrel Grand Master Tee"
