🏠︎ Lokal Life Letter #32

This Week's News & Events in Stillwater

Good morning, Stillwater! I’ve heard of pigs in a blanket, but not pigs in a bag of produce! An opportunistic Mangalitsa pig caused a minor kerfuffle at the Stillwater Farmers' Market this week after sneaking into a vendor's produce bag when no one was looking. Thankfully, no veggies were reported harmed. The pig likely remains unrepentant.

I hope you all have a great Father’s Day this weekend, and this newsletter helps in some small way.

In today’s edition:

  • A Friday the 13th ghost hunt in Perkins (pizza optional)

  • Western Swing Concert and Potluck

  • Father’s Day Craft activities

  • Tacos on the Tarmac ✈️

  • Possible typos

Let’s get right to it!

– Nate Cheever

Happy birthday to Robert Sprott! 🎂

It’s Thursday Market at West Point General Store! 🥬🥒🍅🍔

They’re hosting their Thursday Market with local vendors, farm-raised beef and pork, dry goods, chickens and eggs, home goods, and lots more!

They’ll also have a limited-time Father’s Day meat box of hamburger patties and ribeye steaks for your beloved carnivore male kin.

Gigis Comfort Foods will be serving seriously good food from 5–8 PM.

📍 5900 N. West Point Rd, Glencoe, OK

A Stillwater Story of Stardom and Scandal 🔍🏛️

If you like local lore, forgotten headlines, and/or true crime tales, here’s something to checkout this weekend. Journalist Dan Williams will present a true-crime talk at the Sheerar about Madeline Webb.

Who? Nettie Webb, or Madeline as she preferred to be called, was a Stillwater native and Oklahoma A&M alum whose life arc included a brush with Hollywood stardom, a jewel thief boyfriend, and a headline-making 1940s New York murder trial.

There will be rare photos, newspaper clippings, and even audio of Madeline herself on display. Interestingly enough, after serving for 25 years in prison she came back to Stillwater. What happened then (and before)!? Come and find out!

📍 Stillwater History Museum at the Sheerar
🗓️ Thursday, June 12 | ⏰ 5–8 PM

Enjoy a night On The Town 🍿

Yes, it’s Friday the 13th but no need to get spooked. The Stillwater Community Center is showing On the Town, a fun 1949 musical featuring the fine pipes and tip-top-tapping of Frank Sinatra and Gene Kelly.

Free water, chocolate and popcorn are provided, you just need to provide your smiling self! The show starts Friday at 7 PM, in the Winfrey Houston Auditorium, 315 W 8th Ave.

Real Ghost Hunt This Friday the 13th 👻

…But if you want to get spooked or are spook-proof, there’s a for-real ghost hunt happening this Friday. Sign up with Oklahoma P.R.I.D.E. (Paranormal Researchers Investigating Deceased Entities) for a real investigation at the Oklahoma Territorial Plaza in Perkins. You’ll learn the tools and explore historic buildings in the dark 😱.

NOTE: This isn’t a haunted house. No jump scares. Just you, the group, and…whatever’s out there.

There will be food trucks at the airport on Friday for their Flyday Food Trucks event. I’ve never been invited to enjoy Food Truck food at an airside dining area by an airport before, have you?
