The Payne County Farm Bureau Block Party will be back on Saturday, May 31! 

Head over towards the western Walmart on 6th and Country Club for the start at 9AM. It’s a Block Party, so you know there will be music, bounce houses and obstacle courses for the kids, cotton candy, snow cones, BBQ, coffee, and loads of local vendors with all kinds of goodies. Here’s a few of the local small business folks you might meet there:

Learn Mediation, Help Neighbors Settle Disputes 🤝 

Are you the calm one in the family or friend group chat? The one who talks your uncle/aunt down at Thanksgiving? Here’s a chance to put that superpower to good use! Mr. Jay Irby let me know that the Early Settlement Mediation Program is holding a free two-day volunteer training in basic civil mediation. It’s open to anyone in Kay, Lincoln, Logan, Noble, Pawnee, or Payne counties.

Stillwater Community Singers Call for Voices 🎤 📣

The Stillwater Community Singers are recruiting vocalists for a July 3 benefit concert supporting wildfire relief. There are no fees, auditions or dues to be in this singing group. The program has these classic patriotic tunes:

• America the Beautiful

• This Land is Your Land

• Battle Hymn of the Republic (gets to be sung with the band!)

If you’ve got pipes (or patriotism), join in! It’s one ~1.5 hour commitment a week. Rehearsals start May 22. Register here.

Looking for something off your beaten path? This might be interesting: KICKER headquarters (HQ) is holding a free (for spectators) sound-off event drawing car sound enthusiasts from across the country. Grocery Report: Walmart lowest yet again

I need your help! 👀

I’m kicking around an idea for a Stillwater Lokal Life Discount Card:
10 locally-owned restaurants, each offering 10–15% off your family’s bill.

Math-wise: If you eat out just 4-ish times a year, you break even, and every extra meal puts more dollars back in your pocket and into local Stillwater kitchens, which is neat.

But first, I want to know if the community is even into this.
If the answer’s yes, I’ll make it happen.
If not, I’ll never speak of it again 🤐.

🛒 Ollies (a new place to look for deals) to hold grand opening
Big Lots moved out and Ollie’s Bargain Outlet has moved in. They’re next to the Hobby Lobby on Perkins Rd. Their grand opening celebration is Wednesday, May 28 at 9 AM.

I hadn’t ever heard of Ollie’s before, but it sounds like they offer steep discounts on a wide variety of overstocked and closeout goods. You can see their current flyer here. I’m digging the bold yellow! Inventory is never guaranteed to be there since it depends what they take in.

🛍️ Farewell Murphy’s Department Store
I guess all good things must eventually come to an end. Murphy’s Department Store on Main St. is closing. I was shocked and saddened when I heard. But after 99 years of being a staple, the owners have decided it’s time. A final closeout sale is underway, though they’re not sure when the last day will be, depending on when they run out of inventory. With the loss of an icon like this, what could possibly come after?

🍕 Cindy is cooking up something special

Cindy Cooper of Cindy’s Pizza has new summer hours posted: 4 PM to 9 PM, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Maybe she’s taken the time for R&D, because she’s announced a mammoth-sized 7+ square-foot pizza she’s developing! How to bake a pizza that big? No idea, I’m just here to eat one.
