🏠︎ Lokal Life Letter #22
This Week's News & Events in Stillwater
Good morning, Stillwater! And happy National Film Score Day. The Rocky theme is probably my most-listened. Do you have a favorite movie score or theme? I’d love to hear it!
In today’s edition:
It’s time to meet Stillwater’s favorite mutt 🥇
If you have woodworking skills to share, read on!
Almost 40 hours of indie film screenings 🎥
A public bath (of sorts) ⛩️
Let’s get right to it!

Move-outs, messes, and May—oh my!
If you’re staring down the end of the semester and realizing your place (or your kid’s) or that Airbnb needs some serious TLC, then give Elizabeth and Leslee at Cowboy Home Connection a call.
They’re local moms with a heart for helping, and their cleaning and organizing services are top-notch—especially for move-in/move-out cleans and one-time deep scrubs. They’ve got openings starting in May, but spots will likely go quick.
I almost forgot to mention that they even help with laundry! 🧺 Who doesn’t need help keeping on top of that!?

WHAT’S UP IN STILLWATER
Congrats to Bruno, Stillwater’s First Mutt Madness Champion! 🏆

Look at the easy confidence in that smile. He’s Bruno, our first Mutt Madness winner.
Our victor is Bruno: a 7 year-old golden retriever and registered therapy dog with Pete’s Pet Posse. Owner Catie Noles says, “He makes new best friends wherever he goes. His favorite pastime is taking naps and his favorite food is bananas.” Congrats Catie and Bruno!
In second place is 3 year old Chiweenie Prince Walter, owned by Schyler Alley. Thanks to everyone who entered and all you who voted. Together we raised $400 for the Humane Society!
Should we do this again next year? |
Let’s Get Gong! ⛩️
Think public baths were a thing of the past? Not this week! Red Dirt Yoga is hosting a Gong Sound Bath. If you’re wondering what that is, basically you bring some blankies, get cozy, and listen to the sound of a gong (pbssshshhH) and chimes with others to enjoy a healing deep relaxation. It might provide some needed spring cleaning to those stress spots.
🗺️ Where: Red Dirt Yoga, 1106 S. Main Street
📅 When: Saturday, April 5th at 4 PM
💲 How much: $25 for one hour, book here.
Save a Few Lives Before Dinner 🩸
I had the chance to speak with Brandi Atkinson with Our Blood Institute about blood drives this week, and she informed me that every donation saves three lives. If you get squeamish (like, I confess, I do) with needles, she said, “Just remember that those people whose lives your saving won’t judge you if you get squeamish”. It means the world to them. Here are some places you can go to donate this week:
Date | Where | Time | Extra |
---|---|---|---|
4/3 | InterWorks (1425 S Sangre Rd) | 12-2:30 PM | Bring a friend – extra chance to win $25 |
4/3 | Chick-fil-a (600 E Hall of Fame Ave) | 4:30-6:30 PM | Free Chicken Sandwich for everyone who donates! 🐓 |
4/4 | Stillwater Expo at the Home and Garden Show (4518 Expo Cir E) | Friday, 4-7 PM |
|
Red Dirt Film Festival 🎬🍿
If you like indie films, you’re going to be in heaven this weekend. And with the gloomy weather, might as well spend 38.5+ hours indoors watching movies anyway! It’s the Red Dirt Film Festival at The Stillwater History Museum at the Sheerar from Friday through Sunday. You can preview the selections right here.
📍Where: Stillwater History Museum at the Sheerar, 702 S Duncan St.
📅 When: April 4 9 AM - April 6 10 PM
💲 How much: Free for general admission (thanks sponsors!). VIP pass is $25 here.
What’s Oldest Item at the OSU Museum of Art? 🤔
An old pioneer artifact? A 16th century painting? Nope! It’s actually a 2,300-year-old silver coin featuring Alexander the Great in a lion-skin and Zeus on a throne. It’s smaller than a quarter. Anyone else nerding out?! Cindy at the front desk knows the whole backstory.
🛒 Price Check: Stillwater Grocery Report
Here’s how milk, eggs, and bread stack up across stores this week:
Item | Homeland | Aldi | Walmart | Sprouts |
---|---|---|---|---|
🥛 2% Milk (Gallon) | ||||
🍞 White Sandwich Bread (20 oz) | ||||
🥚 Grade A Large Eggs (Dozen) | ||||
Total | $11.97 | $11.69 | $9.86 | $14.07 |
Sprouts still has the cheapest eggs in stores. Walmart still has the lowest-cost milk and bread in town. Homeland Eggs are now more competitive than before.
A message from Town & Gown Theatre 🎭
Crimes of the Heart starts today! It’s a Southern drama-comedy that follows three wildly different sisters navigating old wounds, small-town gossip, and a whole lot of emotional (and legal) baggage.
The show runs April 3–6 & 10–13. Evening shows at 7:30 PM, Sunday matinees at 2:30 PM. Take a date and go feel cultured sitting watching live theatre!
🎟️ Tickets are $16 for adults, $14 for students/seniors. 📞 Call (405) 372-9122 or visit townandgown.org
